Our approach to effective teambuilding

Team building is our profession and passion. If your planning your next team building activity by yourself, we have included some useful information here to help you. The term, "teambuilding", means different things to different organisations, just as the word, "fun", has very varied meanings to different people. That has always been the basis when we assist our clients in planning for their teambuilding sessions.

Through research and also our experience, there are roughly 4 main reasons for organisations to plan for teambuidling sessions - Setting Direction, Defining Roles, Solving Issues and Strengthening Relationships.

Setting Direction

Setting direction for the team usually happens at the start of a new work year during kickoff meetings or when an organisation, while building a new team, understands that getting everyone aligned to the Vision, Mission and Values of the organisation is half the battle won. We have assisted many teams in their goal setting sessions, including A*Star when they merged with EDBi and Siltronic Samsung when they first started their wafer fab factory in Singapore.

In any business, change is inevitable. With the rapid change in technology, adaptability to change is more relevant than ever. With a change in the business environment, teams have to realign and reinvent themselves to stay relevant in the marketplace. At Anergy, we are able to help teams create or adopt new ideas, seek out new opportunities and brainstorm for possibilities to not just adapt but to see changes as opportunities to win.

Defining Roles

When defining team roles within an organisation, it is important to understand the strengths and possible areas of improvements for each team member. Through our simulation activities, we are able to find out whether the roles of the individuals fit their instinctive affliation to particular roles in a simulated stress environment within the team. We are also able to identify hidden talents of individuals where no self assessed profiling tool can detect. With these valuable inputs teams will be able to redefine their roles or pair up individuals for maximum effectiveness and efficienccy at the workplace.

Solving Issues

Some clients engage team building professionals when they have issues to resolve at work. These are sometimes people related issues, and sometimes it is to get a little creativity boost in their brainstorming sessions. We have a systematic approach to help our clients reslove such issues. We can't say it works a hundred percent of the time but usually as with systematic approaches, we tend to get better results. Having an external consultant around when solving people related issues also help to soften the approach as we are usually seen as an impartial third party.

Strengthening Relationships

Celebrating success is an extremely good way to strengthen relationships; it creates a positive memory anchor for team members. It is also the best time to reinforce positive behaviours and corporate values that are valuable to the organisation. For some of our clients, this is a quarterly, half-yearly or yearly affair. Creating positive memory anchors is an important part of building any team's success. It creates positive emotions where participants feel encouraged, energised and emotionally charged for the challenges that lie ahead as they approach the new term. Aside from being something that the team looks forward to at the end of a term, these memories also serve as a resource state where they can draw strength from within when the going gets tough.
